As part of the layperson team at Forest Park Community Church (FPCC)(www.fpccmd.org), the Music Minister oversees the musical aspects of the life of the church, including leading music for worship services and directing the choir. The Music Minister works in cooperation with the Pastor and the Chair, Music Ministry to create meaningful, creative, and faithful worship.
Responsibilities and Duties
*Be an integral part of the ministry team.
*Attend weekly staff meetings for coordination of church ministry.
*Choose, in coordination with the pastor, hymns and service music appropriate to the themes of worship and seasons of the church year.
*Lead music at weekly worship services, as well as special services as required in the church year.
*Accompany Weddings, Funeral/memorial services as needed.
*Recruit and support choir members and other musicians as needed.
*Plan and lead choir rehearsals.
*Help the choir and the congregation become more knowledgeable about the historical background, theology, or technique of the service music.
*Promote, organize, and use various types of music in worship services.
*Promote, organize, and recruit various musical talent from within the congregation and the wider community, as appropriate.
*Promote, organize, and perform special music events, as appropriate to the life of the church.
*Attend monthly Music Ministry meetings.
*Regularly evaluate, in coordination with the Pastor and Chair, Music Ministry, the musical life of the church.
*Engage in long-rang planning, in coordination with the Pastor and Chair, Music Ministry, about music in the life of the church.
*Secure special music and/or substitute pianists, guitarists, drummers on Sundays or special services when Music Minister is absent.
*Support the technical aspects of services: sound boards, theater lights, video editing, mics, setup and other relative duties as needed.
*Determine needs of music ministry, and in consultation with pastor and Chair, Music Ministry, order resources appropriate to music ministry and within the budget.
*Maintain licenses for use of printed music.
*Maintain church instruments.
*Submit quarterly articles for church newsletter to educate the congregation about the music program.
*Pursue continued education in relevant skills, with support from the music budget.
*Participate in annual review of position with Pastor and Chair, Music Ministry.
The Music Minister will receive the following compensation:
